It is going to double as a pool storage building when filters get disconnected for the winter.

Is the kitchen in a pool house considered the same as a kitchen in a dwelling and must be wired as such?

There is no stove, just counter space, refrigerator, and sink.

Automatic frequency switching of water heaters on ignition of back-up generator?

Hi there!! I am an electrical contractor from South-Africa. I have a client that recently installed a 19kva three phase 380/220v back-up generator, on the main feed to his property. The property exists out of one large house and 11 flats. On the property there are 11 stoves and 7 water heaters. The total load on the property is borders the maximum output of the generator.

The client wants me to install a system which will be able to switch off all the water heaters automatically when the generator kicks in. I was thinking of something along the line of - remote control, frequency operated, load control relay's (as used by utilities) but don't where to find something like that. Any ideas?

Im wiring up a big house, and 2 doorbells - 1 on each floor is what the customer wants. I have a 2 pair cable going from transformer to the doorbell, then over to the doorbell button on the 1st floor. Now, when I wire up the doorbell, can I just tap the 2 wires on the doorbell unit and bring them up to a second doorbell on the 2nd floor? I just want to make sure my thinking is correct.

I have already took a year worth of classes and just started my second year. I am thinking about changing my major.

You see I have already had an interview to join the union and I am pretty sure I am just going to have to retake most of these classes correct? I am taking classes like PLC I, motor controls, ac/dc machines, classes like this. If I am spending money on college classes I want to take classes that can be transferred to bigger university's (I am going to a CC).

If I get into the union that is great but if I don't I feel like I should have backup plan, aka going for a bachelors in engineer or IT Tech work or possibly something else.

Any insight is appreciated:thumbsup:.

I was up in the ceiling tile today pulling fire wire for a new construction job. I was confronted with several 2 inch ridgid conduits I had to wiggle myself through to reach my wire. I grabbed onto one of the conduits and almost burned my hand! It was so hot you could not hold onto it. It was so hot the other conduits were hot from being near the hot one. I traced the conduit to the 3rd transformer sitting on a pad in the electrical room.

I notified the electrician's forman on site. He was pissed at me! These conduits feed the 10,000 sq. ft. sanctuary of a church. One of the new style churches complete with audio / video, stage lighting, etc. The lighting in the sanctuary was only about 10% complete. I'm wondering to myself when all of the special lighting A/V, etc is on how hot is that conduit going to get?

I am still concerned. Glad my fire alarm is up and working. Comments?

I have another one for ya. About a month ago I was asked to look at some offices because there were 2 that the surge protector/battery back up's were randomly beeping. I read the voltages and were both fluctuating from 104 down to about 90 volts. The battery back up kicked in at about 98 volts. So i hooked up a circuit tracer and found the panel they were fed from. A phase was 113v, B phase was 115v, but C phase was 99. I looked around and then tightened the C phase main lug. It instantly jumped to 102v. I am gonna check out the 480 to 120 transformer during the upcoming shutdown. I will check for loose connections and also check the resistance of the windings in the transformer. I already checked the 480v bucket feeding this transformer and they were all tight. Any other suggestions? Also the loads on the panel were as follows A phase 40.8amps, B phase 20.4amps and C phase 30.0amps. The neutral has 12amps on it. Anything I haven't thought of? Thanks in advance everyone:thumbsup:
