Default Cleaning out your tool bag

So the other day I started to wonder why my bag was starting to weigh more than I did. So for everyone's enjoyment and so you can laugh at me this is what I cleaned out,

I would say it all ways close to 10 pounds. And you name it it was in there, wire nuts, sta kons, fastons, lugs, panel parts, bus bars, screw, nuts, bolts, concrete anchors, hangers and straps, fittings, and that's just a small sample, I even had some DIN terminal blocks and fuse holders in there.

Here's the bag cleaned up in its natural environment so you guys can tell me I still carry too much stuff.

A buddy caught me sticking a 1/2" x 5" x 8" steel plate in the bottom of his tool bag. I just wanted to see if he noticed the extra weight.

Time for a new pair of side-cutters. There ain't no way you need all those tools everyday. Just carry the tools you need for the day. Leave everything else in the truck.

I just cleaned my tool box out in 1998..
I hate running around looking for some little thing that tend to be in every tool box/bag
I have not used a bag for a long time.. I like to be able to lock tools up when I go for a walk so the tools don't go for a walk without me..

I was going to sort through it when I had time then I had that thought so I got a bucket, poured it all in and put in the truck, who needs organization anyway.

When its organized I can never find it. But then again, thats when they get a noob to organize it and he throws out all the useful stuff!

OR if its disorganized, I seem to have a never ending supply of something, and if it`s organized, I suddenly run out of it......

Thats why I used to love my little bit of everything disorganized truck..
But every-time I went on holiday (not very often) I would come back and my truck would be FUBAR..
The worst was when they replaced my old, nice light weight aluminum extension ladder with a shorter and heavier fibreglass piece of crap one. Not good for a guy returning from a heart attack.

You know, I really need to take your advice... my tool bag dang near breaks my back carrying it. I need to do a little re-organization.

You just wish your klines could strip 12 gauge. And I plan on getting a box for the truck to keep ratchets and stuff like that in and taking a little weight out.

How do you like the lineman's bucket? You have a 41 pocket one right? I think that will be my next bag.

its at my parents house. that is the exact bag i am going to pick up tomorrow and put my 'necessary' tools in. I used to use it as my primary bag, but i thought I grew out of it.. maybe i never really did.

I realized that there are many tools i do not use daily, and have accepted that i do NOT need to carry them around every day.It just kills my back.

I love that klein bucket. it makes it great for bringing my tools up a ladder or the like. Ill add pictures to this thread tomorrow eve of what i have, and what will be... lol.

I have accepted that i really need 2 bags.. my everyday essentials, and the rest of the tools I may need.

Some times common sense is all one needs...

Nice linesman pliers JLarson! Mine have almost the exact same custom "stripping holes"! I don't pack tool bags chock full of tools. Have a carpenters belt I wear sometimes.

Only one is a blast hole. Those are my "you need to cut what?" pliers. I have cut mc, ac, flex, wire, cable, hardened wire, machine screws, screws, nails and even some #35 hardened steel roller chain with those things, plus twisted a million splices and beat a couple million lock nuts.

The bag isn't that heavy anymore after the clean out. I rarely wear a belt cause I can't find one I like.

i used to carry a tool bag with everything. now i have two tool bags. one for the tools i need on the job, and one with everything in it. that stays in the truck.

i also have a large rubbermaid tool box which has a lot more tools in it like power tools and what not.
