Default Missing tools

Just finished up an exhaust fan installation job, we actually installed 9 fans, made all my final terminations in my control panel, and tested all fans on Thursday. Friday cleaned out my job box and placed all material and tools back on the company work van. Getting ready to start the next job Monday, just got done checking the van, my personal truck, and my house....needless to say one of my helpers or someone else walked off with my Slugbuster KO punch set.

Ouch. I still remember what I paid for my set. I believe it was 1 arm and 1/2 leg.

I can't find my DeWalt 15 minute charger and a nearly new 18v battery. I've retraced my steps, looked everywhere, and asked the other guys.

99% of time time, my missing tools are AWOL because I used it, set it down, and just plain forgot where.

Yea, tools getting stolen are a huge drag.

I remember having a cordless sawzall and two benders sprout legs while I was doing underground for a restaurant. Concrete crew was the only others around. I asked their foreman if any of their guys had found them. "You think any of my greasers would admit stealing your tools!?!?" was his reply. I said, "I never said they stole them.... I asked if any of them found them!"

Two weeks later, the shell was up and I told the carpenters to keep a close eye on their tools. Sure enough, the same 'crete crew was pouring the parking lot, and the carptenters scaffold they had set up inside went missing. Right in the middle of the day. Dozens of other trades around. Interesting, as the same 'crete crew was there.

Once they left the job, I never heard of anything else come up missing. Hmmmm.

Personally, if I see a tool laying somewhere, I leave it. If it's still there at the end of the day, I'll pick it up and try to find out who it belongs to.

It isn't very often that I don't see the same contractors on jobs eventually. Funny how some guys can be "accident prone" and get injured on the job.

What I've learned over the years of donating tools is to count what I'm using in the morning and count for the same in the afternoon, I can only say I've learned this painfully from trail and error!
