Default Non Contact Tester Preference

I was in an attic the other day and the attic insulation monster ate my tic tester.
So now I need a new one. The one I had was a craftsman, not the best I'm sure, but it didn't have a button to press to turn it on. I liked that part.

Do all the newer testers have an on/off switch? What brand seems to be better than most?

People are going to say Santronics.

I'm not the most careful with tic testers and have had them break. My Fluke has been holding up very well. I haven't tried Fluke's 2AC.

Do these have an on/off button?
Do they have an audible alarm or just turn red?

No button. No buzzers. Just an LED.

I've never had problems with the Greenlee GT-11. Its cheap, reliable and durable.

Fluke gets my vote. In 3 years it's never let me down whereas other testers have easily broken or stopped functioning.

Same here.
Fluke is the ONLY one that has lasted more than a year or the original set of batteries, which ever came first.

Milwaukee, the light is an excellent addition, and IMO, it works better than the fluke tic.

Just received my new Santronics tester. It does have a beeper/buzzzer! It might be a newer model than what you have. It is a AC3000 Ultimate AC Sensor. I don't know how well it will work, but it sure looks good...Tennessee Big Orange!

I have been using the santronics ultimate AC tester for a while but I have to replace them every 8-10 months as the battery contact springs get weak or something. I am trying the Milwaukee now.
