Buy online or traditional store?
What is your oppinon on buying material online? I was thinking about buying online, but wanted to know if that is a good way to go or should I stay with the traditional store? I know it is cheaper online, however I don't know if it is worth it. Any oppinons out there

There are always opinions out here. I tend to buy locally and have a very good relationship with my supplier.
I have bought light fixtures online or thru catalogs but not electrical material. I want to be able to bring things back if they are defective or I didn't need them. There is a lot to be said about building relationships locally.

I prefer to buy from a local supply house, but they don't
stock certain items that I prefer to use, so I go online
for those. I probably buy 5-10% of my material online
- it's convenient in that I can do it at night and it shows
up in a week or so.

I prefer to buy local. It's easier. Funny you should ask that, today I get a phone call from God knows who trying to sell me gfis, wire nuts blah blah. They had Leviton gfis for 6 bucks a pop.

I buy 99% from my local supply houses, and have built relationships that give me great pricing, and phone #s for the inside guys to open up for us on weekends, holidays and nights.

Not really a supply house, but an electrical surplus dealer. Never know what they'll have. I've bought occasionally from them. The nice thing about them is that you can make them an offer. The price is not the price:

Exactly my MO as well.
I can't see how anyone could sell wire online cheap enough to offset the shipping costs. Even if they did I'd rather give my business to the supply house.

I use E-Conolights.com .warranty is excellent. H.P.S. wallpacks have tempered glass, not acrylic plastic.Buying online is easier, sometimes, than waiting to talk a sales rep.

My supply house was switching over from Cooper to Leviton and had all their Cooper receps marked half off. I've got about 150 white receps now.

We buy local. There are several supply houses that we use. On a first name basis with them.
