I have no problem doing what Rob does because all big businesses do the same thing. Do you think Sears, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, or any other of the big companies don't already mark up their products 2-300%?
Of course they do.
A 25% off price is a good value but only because the mark up is "only" 175% of the actual value of the product. Marking up products and services is all a part of doing business. This is one reason why letting the HO buy materials is a no-go for most business owners. Knowing what materials are needed for a particular job is something that's been learned through a lot of sweat and tears. YOU'VE EARNED THE RIGHT TO MARK UP MATERIAL the same way Sears has by delivering the products that YOU WANT TO BUY.
Merry Christmas

Marking up your material is not unethical, jacking up your total price and then discounting it is.

Our lawyers said IN NO UNCERTAIN TERMS no alcohol, of any kind. Possible lawsuit.
WE send out cards, and gifts to many, plus coffee cups, flash lights, tool kits, calendars, pens and on and on..all with the company logo.

And what if you happen to know the GC/customer is notorious for instantly trying to chop you down? Is it still unethical to inflate your initial quote, knowing they will scoff at it, then lower it 10% for them so they feel they won? I think not.
