By God's grace, I am thankful to be a "Jesus peep" as well.

As to inflating the total job costs so as to give 10% off, I would say that if your conscience allows for it: go for it. If you feel the gains are worth the dishonesty, again go for it, you are the one that gets to live with your own decisions(and I'm not trying to change anybody's mind that does this, obviously it is easy to rationalize). For me I remember life is short, and even if I didn't believe there was a day of reckoning after this life, there will still come a day when my working days are over and my days of reflection are all I have left: do I want to reflect back on how well I shafted people, or how well I was able to honestly provide good service with all my strength and ability.

I figure that if work is only 90% billable, it's better than no work at all; if you are busy and will stay that way, you can laugh at those that are giving away 10% of their margin; on the other hand work at 90% is better than no work at all(I'm up in the air as to 10% savings for existing customers, I prefer to use the deals to draw in new customers; but if the 10% pushes a customer to do a project they might not have done I lean towards giving out those savings).

Side note: I just started my business back in July, and I decided to give 10% to those that refer me work, instead of to the customers themselves; not sure if it was a wise decision or not, time will tell.

Would it be ok to jut ask them where they heard of you? Oldest trick in the book offer a discount but jack up the price to cover it.

Well, It depends. Good customers will get gift cards, shirts, mugs, cookies and others will just get a card. Does your company(s), give you a christmas bonus of some kind? last year I got a extra $20.

Its funny how most of the people with comments on this aren't Owners.

Wow you got an extra $20 dollars

Before I went on my own my last boss gave me $1,000 for Christmas.

But what does that have to do with giving cards to your customers?

John 9:39-41 "Jesus said, 'For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.' Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, 'Are we also blind?' Jesus said to them, 'If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say 'We see,' your guilt remains."
