Default house price graphic info

From a biz blog in my local paper:

This is a graphic that the Fed's Ben Bernanke used in a recent talk. What's interesting is how many states don't have housing-price declines -- of course the green states typically have lower populations, too. The data are only through the end of 2007. Thanks to Calculated Risk for the pointer.

Default gas prices

Since this thread got bumped:

From GasBuddy, via Barry Ritholtz: Here is a county-by-county map of gas prices. The "hot" colors (red) are high prices; the "cool" colors (green) are lower. But not by much!

Want a riddle gentlemen?

What year do you think we were standing around the (roach coach, water cooler, whatever) musing "if 'they' don't stop messing around with the gas prices, we will soon be paying $1 a gallon?"

Answer: about November 1988, $1.0500/gal USD

If we only knew . . .

The first time I bought gas with my own money (14 on a dirt bike I would sneak around the neighborhood streets to get to the trails) was (drumroll please!) 34 cents a gallon. No one had even heard of Iran then.

Minimum wage was about $1.80/hr but I made $5/hr delivering newspapers and $3/hr helping the hardware store man (remember them?) when they did lock and window work.

14awg:

Though, I have noticed signs of the market beginning to slide. Commercial and industrial isn't too bad, but it seems the residential end is sliding a little bit. Some of our contractors seem to be getting a wee desperate. Time will tell I suppose.

I agree YoungSparky, even though Grand Junction is booming in other areas the residential building area is slowing... I assume it’s because the ones with the money have no credit the oil field is really the only money in this town and the average age of the workers are under 25. If the oil felid ever pulls out like they did in 1985 my house's equity will plummet and we will be stuck doing remodels... hopefully.

When Exon pulled out, my boss had just finished up his 2 residential years. Afterward, since the residential market almost slowed to a stand-still, he had to work our of town regularly doing primarily commercial work. I can only imagine. Though I must say, I don't see any signs of them retreating. Well, yet that is. Colorado is sure trying to give "them" a hard time.
