I'll make a quick assumption that you are young ME. The day may come when the boss needs to decide who to lay off. Is the boss going to remember that you are the one that will take care of stuff at the house, or anything? Or is the boss going to remember that you had a hissy-fit about a small favor.

I am guessing that you are young because three things in my past come to mind that gives me the "Yes, I wash windows" attitude.

1. Being broke and working ranch-hand for a great retired couple doing anything for $2 or $3 an hour (1975?).
2. Being unemployed with our first baby (6 month old). BTW, I lost this job because I wouldn't spray paint in addition to my welding/wiring duties.
3. Paying for kids medical & college.

That "not MY job" attirude may fly in the government, the union very large companies. But anyone with a few years under their belt will tell you that when hard decisions have to be made the guy who is willing to go the extra mile with a positive attitude will come out on top. The one with a chip on their shoulder makes it easy to decide who goes first. Don't we know who they think they are?........ Yep, the first one we can do without, irregardless of skill or talent- unless you contribute mightily to the bottom line of the company. Unfortunately that attitude and contributing to the company dont often go together.

Sounds pretty young/ immature to me too.

+1

I always say to new hires, we run the company like a sports team. If your there for us when we need you and you have a "can do attitude" we are going to be there for you and make sure you get your hours.

If not, don't blame us if you get benched.
