Logos
I am in the process of opening my own buisness, I have the money (Which is very tight right now) and I am forming my LLC, But I am trying to figure out a logo. I believe a logo is what the customer (s) see first in the phone book, Ad's, etc. Did you guys pay a company to make yours, or did you make your own?

I would suggest first trying to come up with your own before hiring someone.
A few random tips:
Keep it simple: no small details or too busy looking.
Make sure you can print it black and white/grey tones.
Think about how it will look at a distance and in motion.
Round edges/curves are good, spikes and points are less effective.
Avoid using a lightning bolt if you can, it’s a bit generic.
"Wingdings" (the font) is often used as a base and then modified.
If you are computer savvy purchase Photoshop Elements ($150 I think) and play with some ideas in it.
Good luck.

Get a graffic art student to design your logo. Nike paid a student $35.00 for the swoosh in 1971.

Even though I had the know how .. I lacked the creativity at the time when I was busy trying to get everything going so I had mine done for around $200 he gave me 3 or 4 options and I ended up buying 2 of the options and he made as many as revisions as I required to get it just the way I wanted it.. he also sent vector support to my sign company to get logos cut for my truck. http://thelogo-mat.com is who I used and found a company that could do gradient color shading onto vinyl for lettering.
Hope that helps

I just used a graphics program that allows me to insert text in any font, then alter it (chisel, shadow, 3D, glass, etc.)

Not Brand New, 2nd year. I am opening it with a couple of Electricians who wanted to start a business, Me Cody and Paul (my cousin) started CP Electric, LLC. and hired those Electricians without jobs. We have quite a good jobs lined up, should keep us busy till the end of next year. Paper work is done today, we are official.

Keep it simple. Most people dont hire you based on your logo or web presence. If you can read it from the opposite side of a street your good to go. Ive been in the busi for a little over two years and i can honestly say that my buisness hasnt really gotten going since the beggining of this summer. And I owe it mainly due to word of mouth and my own persistance. I tossed around the idea of getting a site up just to have a web presence but I feel that if I am making good money now there seems no need to throw money away. Especially during these times. I spent a big nut on advertising in the past year and a half and word of mouth seems to be my biggest asset right now.
Personaly when I look back at my past years customers .....the bigger jobs usually come from the word of mouth/gc jobs. Most of the phone book calls are fix ups, maybe a service change. Most smart people usually ask friends/family for a referance before they drop a big nut on electrical work.
thats just my two cents.

Try this company http://www.eskimo-design.com they did my logo for £100 and accepted Paypal. They also only take a 50% deposit to start and then the remainder once you are happy with the finished design. I am just having them build a website for me now.
My logo is here:
