Bob: This would depend on his standing in the local area. I write inspection letters all the time, and contractors are aware of this. Be fair, be honest but if they are wrong they are wrong. I work for several contractors I have written up in inspections and in several cases they have hired me to make the repairs I noted.

At that point I have a sit down with them and the customer. as this can be considered a conflict of interest unless all parties are onboard.

Put two spaces after a period before starting your next sentence.

Yes, as PeterD so studiously pointed out already, please try to form comprehensible sentences, so that whomever just may happen to be reading will be able to actually understand WTF you mean.

Not an electrical inspector within 50 miles of here. But thanks(?) folks. I fired the letter off this morning.

The story is that they had a contractor, but fired him. They called me to complete the trim. When I got there, it was absolute crap. The super knew enough about electrical to know that I wasn't just blowing smoke, trying to make work. The more I found, the more I found. The letter was the super's idea to the boss, because there was bound to be some issues from the last contractor about collecting his retainer. From what I saw, he didn't deserve the money. He should have been put in jail. I realized this morning that there was no cold water bond from the service, and the super about hit the fan.

RE: XYZ Project; 7890 Crosstown Blvd, Anytown, USA.

Please be advised that a visual evaluation of the electrical installation on the above-referenced project was conducted on August 28, 2009. This evaluation was requested by Joe Blow, project manager.

The following deficiencies were found, with planned corrections as noted:

I would refrain from using the word "inspection" unless you are a bona-fide inspector.

You mean like if the water main coming in is plastic and changes to copper inside, then you'd bond the copper pipe in the house to the service ground? I think that's what you mean.

AS many of you arre aware of my typing skills are severly lacking, spelling worse and writing skills limited. I often have to write several page reports (I did one that was 20-30 pages.

What I suggest, short of taking a writing course is. Look for guidance from others (as was done above). write the letter, proof read, rewrite proof read and rewrite and proof read. It takes me a long time to complete some letters but in the end I try and make sure the leters levng the ofica dn't lok like a dolt written them.

BJ,

Just funning with you. Even properly spelled words are not always correct. Context changes thing greatly. Do not rely on spell check. I try to get someone else to proof my letters as I mentally make the corrections that are apparent to others.

And to think I was going to start this off with the classic, " It was a dark and stormy night."

Actually, you may want to take note that APA format dictates (American Psychological Association, 2001):
"use one space after all punctuation as follows:
  • after commas, colons, and semicolons;
  • after punctuation marks at the ends of sentences;
  • after periods that separate parts of a reference citation; and
  • after the periods of the initials in personal names"

American Psychological Association, (2001). Publication manual of the American Psychological Association: Fifth edition. Washington, DC: American Psychological Association.

APA? That's funny! When did they start making rules about grammar and punctuation? I think they are messing with your head, no pun intended!

Besides the guy I was referring to didn't even put one space after his period.

Ugh, APA really does suck. There is a whole 300 page book dedicated to nothing but formatting of manuscripts. The dictate everything from spacing to the font you use.
