The NYSP have an on board printer for traffic tickets. I thuoght of it but I can't see any printer taking the abuse of a work truck lasting more than 6 mos.

For the few times you need this why not just hand write it?
You can get a few hundred pre-printed invoices cheap. Just keep a stack on the truck for that occasional use.

This is what I do and find I almost never use them. I either e-mail right from the job, or e-mail or snail-mail it later.

Step one, put in an inverter to get yourself 120 volts.
Step two is buy a Cannon Pixma IP90 mobile printer. (HP makes a nice one that has battery power as well, but that one is PC only I think)
Step three is get an Apple Air cause you have a zero boot up time, just like with the Ipads, but it's got a USB2 port that the printer wants. Again there are some printers that feature wireless printing, but they are pretty big and this one I mention is pretty small and easy to store.
Step four is go to home depot and buy one of those plastic storage bins that are black with 2 red handles and a gray cover, I mess up on the maker's name and always say plano but it's not made by them.
Step 5 is drill out a hole to run the printer power cord thru and plug int the inverter .
Step 6- put that box between the bucket seats of a ford or chevy van. The box holds the printer and the airbook computer nicely and keeps it out of sight when not in use, and the top makes a good table for when it is in use.

Step 7 - boot up the Airbook in the morning once , and leave it on all day. You can plug it in to the inverter if you like, I never need to , the battery is long lasting , enough to make thru the day and then some.

Step 8- Get a copy of Precision Pricing's ES2 flat rate program to run on it if you are doing service calls.

Step 9 - go make money.

Thats my method, I can punch out an invoice just as fast doing it with that setup as I can back in my office at my desk, and the customer doesn't need to have to have an e-mail account to look at the invoice, I hand it to them.

Please forgive the left out capital letters , I got sore hands this week.

Default Canon IP100

I have a canon IP100 with the battery. When I'm finished the call I print off the invoice from quickbooks on my laptop. I hand them the invoice and they hand me a cheque. On my way home I deposit the cheque in the bank around the corner from my house. I don't have to go back to the office and do all the invoicing and the invoicing was done on the customers dime.

Not yet Emergency call storm damage meter and riser is destroyed . Gave them a bill . They call back and trying to beat me down ... So they can give the homeowner a break on his deductible... Thats the only reason I can think . It will probably be the last time I will work for them !!

Read / search thru all posts that have "flat rate" in the header. Get yourself a bit of street smarts from the people who been down that T+M road long enough to know to get out of it. Get your contract signed before you start work, and get paid as you finish. Using a credit card payment solution is even better.
