Default Property maintenance Companies

I am starting my own business but I'm only doing nights and weekends. For those who get peeved about that I charge the same thing you charge so I'm not cutting guys throats to get jobs. I think we all should be paid extremely well to do what we do. Any way my question is has any one done work for these companies. I have heard they don't pay fast. I was thinking that they would not mind my hours since most retail type places are open during nights and weekends. I thought this might be a way to get a little money flowing in the bank account. What say you?
My boss that I work for now does work for Emcon and DWM (i think that is right), so I have seen the type of work to be done. Also does anyone know what they require insurance wise to work for them?
Thanks

IMO-If you have enough work without them, do not get involved with these companies. Besides the fact that they are extremely slow in paying (if at all), they will try to cut your bill every time. I have worked for several of them in the past, and now I will not even respond to their calls.

I go after this work. It can be very good income but you will have at least 45 days between invoice and payment. The first few payments may be slower as you are not in the system.Making contact ahead of time to get your paperwork done will speed payment. The problem you may have is they want a rapid response usually within 24 hours so if you just have nites you may lose the call.also they require minimum of 1 million liability and workmans comp. Our business focus is in the service end so this works well for us.

License and a large Insurance policy are minimum.
Ya gotta know... every time something burns up.. it is first suspected as electrical.

THanks for the replies guys. I know it works for my boss. He doesn't do anything if it doesn't make him money. I will probably look into this. I know these jobs have a do not exceed amount. I think he charges the max every time. Any of you got experience with that?
Thanks

I've got experience seeing DNE's from national maintenance companies that I think would have most contractors operating at a loss.

I have never had a problem with a DNE price. They will give you a phone number to call if you think you will go over the price.

I have never worked with any of the national companies I was referring to, I was only speaking of some of the offers I have seen in the past. I must admit some of the initial terms I saw turned me off, purely from a lack of experience in dealing with those types of contracts.

25%-35% of my work and no major issues. Some are a PIA but you have to stay on them. Heck all customers can be a PIA when it comes to paying their bills if you do not stay on them.
