Default Rugged phone?

Rugged phone?
I want to find a cell phone that is more rugged than my present one. Yesterday, I saw a friend's unit that intrigued me: Casio G'zOne

I read some reviews, and saw a high number of negative comments about this phone being somewhat sluggish ... operating system. This concerns me.

I want to hear from any of you who have been using one of these. Are they all they're cracked up to be?

That phone has been around a while. I think it's being phased out for something similar.
I have the drop and water resistance motorola the flat one.

Not sure if the motorola unit can be used on Verizon ... if they are replacing the G'zOne with a newer model, I might wait for it to appear ...

Yes, I have Verizon. Next I will get the Droid as my second phone number. It has an 8 megapixel camera and video. The free GPS is just like the one in a car.

Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs) has been pushing the Motorola Brute (ordinary flip phone) and the Motorola i-1 (android smart phone), as being the toughest phones in their respective classes.

I have had an otterbox defender case on my iphone. I have had the phone over two years, and it looks free from dust, and I have dropped it out of my shirt pocket many of times and after a ten foot fall. Still no problem.

Also replaced for free when i broke the case by sitting on it.

I have the GZ one. I like it fine. I have the extra protective cover on mine. Its practically bullet proof. When my daughter gets it dirty with her sticky hands I just wash it off. I can email from it and used the GPS on it a couple of times. Works great. Got me through Queens NY yesterday.

My only gripe about it is sometimes people have a hard time hearing you. The microphone is in a bad spot. hopefully they will address this issue on the next modle. It also has a compass, walking counter, Thermometer, Tide chart, surise/set, and astro calander. I will step up to a smartphone one day, but for right now, whilst I am still in the trenches i will go with the Casio every time. I think it has good value.

They phased the G'zOne and the Boulder out and replaced it with a Samsung equivalent. The Samsung Convoy, we just replaced all of our phones with these, they hold up well and Meets Military Specifications 810F standards for Shock and Dust Resistance, Vibration, Salt Fog, Humidity, Solar Radiation, Altitude and Low and High Temperature Storage.

We like them a lot, I already dropped mine off a 28' ladder and it never even skipped a beat.

I have a Samsung Rugby, A-836, I dropped it down stairs, off of ladders, did just about anything that would kill a normal phone, I even washed it, twice, removed the battery overnight, turned on in the morning and it still works.

Blackberry inside an otter box case. Purchase the optional screen protector and keypad cover to help keep the dust out. I've dropped it more times than I would like to admit and not a scratch on it.

I think they may be paying him to say nice things about those products.

My guys all have the Motorola Brute...... best "rugged" phone we have had, ever. They have been submerged in saltwater, dropped off our 26' scissor lift, and beaten to death and I have not had to have one replaced yet.

Mike does quite a few different company endorsements, Graingers, Ford, one of the drug stores, Motorola and a few others I am sure.

I'd hope so.

I'm sort of a Mike Rowe fan, since he's a local guy that I used to watch on a local Baltimore TV station. His MikeRoweWorks website is well put together, and it's nice to have a bit of celebrity activism for the blue collar worker.

He narrates a lot of shows also. The hosts on some shows get on my nerves. I like a lot of the shows he does.
