Default Submitals

It has been 10 years since i was in an office estimating and managing work for a contractor and now a friend of mine is starting his own shop and i have been asked to help on a project he id bidding.
my question is - Are submitals still done on paper or are they done thru pdf files in a program like power point or the likes?

when i did them last it was a lot of time at the copier machine and a lot of assembling them together in a 3 ring or simmilar type booklet- which all seems wasteful these days

I do them in a PDF as often as I can. Some GC's will ask for them on paper which I will provide if asked.

Adobe. Usually identified with the spec section.

We scan them into a PDF for ease of use but most specs require 7 hard copies.
We keep a hard copy at office and one is issued to field.
Lots of binders around our office.
