I live 1 1/2 hours from VA Beach and since the Labor Day riot years ago, it just seems to have changed a lot. I don't know if it's improved any, but most around here don't go there. As I said, haven't been in a while but I'd go somewhere else, imho.

I just googled it and didn't realize it was 20 years ago, damn I'm getting old

Consider Lewes and/or Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, or Ocean City Maryland. Nice places. Wildwood and Cape May NJ are pretty nice, but the rest of the Jersey Shore blows.
I agree that Rhode Island has nice beaches, and that Virginia beach isn't all it's cracked up to be.

I love the Outer Banks but I also love Morehead City/Atlantic Beach. Morehead is where I went as a kid. I have some wonderful memories of that place. I'm going at the end of July for a week.

If your really laid back you would love Boca Grande in Englewood, Fla. Its on the west Fla coast. But I would love to try the seafood in Rhode Island. I think that sounds like a good getaway with the wife.

I was just there this past January. It was really nice there. I even went for a swim!

Hampton Beach NH would be good for a day or two, then hit some of the local beaches like Revere Beach and grab some Kelly's RB and drive north to York, Maine. These beaches are excellent for younger kids. Seafood can't get any fresher than New England. That's if you want clams and shrimp, fish scallops........LOL

Tom

Hot Roast Beef, how many have had it? Maybe a New England thing only?

Any beach in Florida. I recommend the beaches on the Gulf Coast of Florida. But as mentioned earlier, St. Augustine is a lot of fun, wife and I go at least once a year. Granted it is only a 2 hour drive for us.

Well i agree Greg the west coast of florida is cleaner nice white sand and less spring breakers .

But if you go on the east coast trip stay out of Daytona go south to Vero beach and keep it south lots of nice beaches and smaller older better hotels nice east coast restaurants lots of sea food .
The beach is ok but theres more .

They might like the old florida air boat rides !

Lots of stuff in florida dont go to Disney youll get bored!

Take care be safe
