Along these same lines, my 34-year old daughter-in-law didn't know who Charles Manson is. His name came up when he was in the news last week for being in the hospital.

Whatever happened to common knowledge?

It seems to have died off with the birth of 'common core'.

That's been endangered since the drug culture of the 60s and further injured by social problems including poor nutrition and lack of exercise by the majority.

One time I shouted around my kids, "Remember the Alamo", they asked what is the Alamo, Not taught in school it seems.

Had an employee that could not put in order of occurrence the following.

Revolutionary War
Civil War
WWI
WWII

MY simple lesson to him was

We had to have Revolution before we could have a civil war

One before two I am sure common core teaches that?
WWI
WWII

Another did not know what WW stood for.

I wouldn't bet on that one.

The agendas my nieces and nephews were being taught in schools never seemed to coincide with logic, common sense, or common knowledge.

I was listening to a radio station recently and they were interviewing a college's head of journalism and one of her journalism students. The radio guy mentioned Edward R. Murrow and the student did not know who Murrow was. To me, that the same as an inventor not knowing who Edison or Ben Franklin were (was??).

How many mass murderers are there, and can you name them all? Nickola Tesla is the reason we transmit power at high voltages and use 3-phase, but if he had never existed, our power system would have ended up the same anyway.
