Default Giving up smoking.

Okay so I have been smoking since I was 11, I am 40 in July & really want to stop, anybody got any advice or tried anything that actually works?
I have set myself a target, as I roll my own have decided that what is in my tin now is the last time it will be filled. Also I will be throwing out all associated items, lighters, ashtrays, papers and filters.
I have heard of some horror stories about xyban(sp)?
Have tried the stuff that is available over here but it didnt work and agree that willpower is the best way, but I found it hard to break the hand to mouth thing.
Thankyou in advance. Nige.

I'm thinking about it myself. And for the same reason - that big 4-0.

Maybe try lollypops, or something like that for the hand-to-mouth thing. (Remember Kojak?)

Good luck - let us know how it is going.

You WILL pick up weight. Almost everyone I know who quit gained weight.

Go sugar-free.

Better to be a little heavier than go down from lung or some other smoking related cancer. My father smoked since he was 8, just his morning cough was enough to make me never start. He died for emphysema, the Dr. that did the autopsy said if that hadn't killed him the tumors in his neck and on his lungs would have in a short time anyway. He did make 83 but I think that was from all the alcohol preserving his organs. He also had a drink in his hand from waking up til bedtime daily. His siblings all made over 90.

Yes she is, I finally found the right one. It took way too long. I owe that to a good friend, I married his sister in law, we met at his wedding. My problem was the last four were American, that was where I went wrong. I look forward to spending as much time with her as possible, I am 23 years older than her though.

I think you know that age has nothing to do with it, I am 5 yrs older than my wife & our birthdays are 5 days apart.
I always said that I would marry a foreigner, but ended up marrying a brit, she is such a clever & level headed woman, she keeps me from blowing up, which I used to do a lot & usually over something or someone dumb.

How old are you Random?

Started smoking at 13 tried to quit a dozen times, did the next week, next week, then when they hit a $1.00 thing. One day (at 26) I took half a pack out and chucked them in the trash. Have not smoked since, now 55.

Quit and start walking, or doing some exercise. several of my friends that did not quit smoking now have COPT (?), have troubles walking up stairs, and doing basic things. QUIT, it is good for you and saves money.

One item of concern the government has been increasing taxes on cigarettes for sometime. Not because they give a damn about your health but because the government just taxes the hell out of us. Now when everyone finally quits where will they get the revenue from. They won't cut spending they'll hit us elsewhere.

Alcohol consumption only makes it more difficult, if you drink you're better off quitting both.

I don't think I look or act my age for the most part. My oldest child is 31, a year older than my wife. As for what that tells me, stuff happens, people do change, I only have problems with my last ex, she was just out for all she could get. I am very different now than I was when on active duty and much different since I realized I wasn't a kid anymore.

Go to a hypnotist and have him/her hypnotize you into thinking that you are a goat………goats don’t smoke.Attachment 544 K.I.S.S.

Good luck trying to stop smoking ..you are going to need it. It’s going to probably be the hardest and almost impossible thing you will ever do.

Something to also remember:

Best wishes in your quest to stop smoking.

In 1980 I worked in an on-jobsite office for my great boss and mentor, a two pack a day person. Bob had three children, and all were in elementary school. At the time teachers were working on their students about not smoking, and if your parents were smokers urge them to quit. Bob finally caved in to his kids pressure. One moring he 'said hell with this', crumpled up the balance of his pack and tossed it. Cold turkey. Never smoked again, and is still living.
Did put on a few LBs though.

Cool

I quit smoking in 1998 after open heart surgery. I did it One Day At A Time. Licorice helped. And my wife who still smoked at that time only smoked outdoors for a few months. Yea I gained some weight but I took that off later because I was able to walk without panting.

I try to get my employees to quit, I tell them I'll pay for what it takes, Hell do the patch, hypnotism, and the copper ring on the ear and anything else it takes.
