I dont have H1N1
Thank God. I am still sick, however. Just so this tread gets locked out, I had to pay $105.00 for the doctor visit and all I wanted was the anti-biotics. The Dr. wrote the script and I had to ask if they were generic. They were not. He would not write generic. He did give me a free sample of one of them. Soo... I do get to buy the meds. I wish it wasn't against the law to go to the pharmacy and buy my meds without paying a bunch of money that I did not feel I needed to spend.

I think Wal-Mart will fill the script out with generic if it's available.

I don't know what you have down in the capital of Breese, but I canceled my Rx plan because my scripts are anywhere for $4-8 per fill from Target, Walmart, Sams Club, and I hear Costco. I stay away from Walgreens and Rite-Aid.
These prices are for generic's. From what I hear, Sam's has got decent prices on non-generics. Or you could go east on the 10 and south from San Antonio.
I go to Target because it's close by. I average $16 a year in pills. Way cheaper than a Rx plan.

had one of the flus 3 weeks ago. fever 2 days. sick a week but worked, coughing up green slime, snot was bright yellow. cold for a week after that. Back to drinking beer now to get my vitamin C. I don't know why anyone takes antibiotics, that stuff is bad for you.

Antibiotics do not treat viruses. They are for infections. Many Doctors will not give antibiotics for viruses because their overuse causes resistance. Now if you have a flu/cold long enough, you can get in sinus infection. The best way to keep that from happening is to treat the stuffy nose symptoms. It is best to buy decongestants without the pain relief included. That way you can adjust each separately. Many folks overdose on Tylenol, for instance, because they take it in addition to a multi-symptom cold med.

If you had the flu, you would have not been working. And, if you did have the flu, how dare you bring it to work and subject others to it.

Very good post. My doctor will rarely prescribe antibiotics. In fact I have been with him over 20 years and I think he prescribed it twice.
Thanks Bob for the article on generics vs brand name. I have always believed the generics were different, but the doctor always disagrees. I will take it with me today. I have an appointment.

yes, however, it's some doctors fears of prescribing antibiotics, that get rediculous at times......my daughter had a cold, so I didn't take her to the doc, yet 4 weeks later, still a nasty cough......go see doc....oh, it will clear up......2 weeks later, not cleared up, go see doc......oh, she must have alergies or maybe even asthma, try antihistamines........one week of trying that, no luck, so finally, take her to my family gp (who is hard to get an appointment with, usually gotta book several days to a week in advance) and he gives me antibiotics. Her cough went away in 2 days.
I know how long a virus lasts, and I think some doctors just don't like when you have some understanding of how things work, and want to argue with you so they end up sounding right. But to let a 2 y/0 suffer for almost 8 weeks.........

I only found out about the viral infection not being treated with antiboitics recently (after the doctor visit)
as to the post of what kind of insurance i have - i do not have any
I made an appointment to see a doctor - $105 (no wonder we have trouble getting more than $60/hour down here)
I went to the pharmacist and bought my pills $25
a little more expensive, but not much, than some of my side work time and material
all in all not bad for a doctor visit - 1 hour and medication $130 (this was paid while I am drawing unemployment - so not a little bit of money at the moment)
I look at it like this - I paid 1200 bucks for a year of insurance a few years back and never need to use the doctor. Now i pay out of pocket and its cheaper for me But ...... Thank God I do not have a serious condition - then I guess they would send me to the glue mill
