Default The "office" window

Part of the reason I like what I do is the staring out the "mobile office window" that's necessary between jobs.

What do you see out the office window?

Unfortunately, most of the time, traffic. But I get paid to be in traffic, so I can deal with it.

Having flown airplanes for a living many years ago, in the bottom picture, a little to the left of center, that white thing sticking up that looks sort of like a bowling pin may well be a VOR.

VOR stands for Very high frequency Omni-directional Range. It's used for air navigation. It's sort of a hub that airways (like roads in the sky) lead to and from.

Or it could be a church steeple.

Nice pics Unc. I sometimes think that's why folks in big cities make so much more. They have to deal with traffic, houses, buildings, slums, jerks, etc.

Sure, cities are coolonce in a while, but we get to looks at scenery like that all the time, and the BP rate is noticeably lower because of it.

Out my office window, I can get the best (and worst) of both worlds!

Sometimes, a job that takes me 30 minutes to drive to in the morning, takes me 2 hours to drive home from.

I was doing good until the last one. My first thought was of the old IQ test : "Which photo does not belong in the group?"

Here's some I took during a service call Wednesday.

I envy you unclebill. I spent some time in Sandy Oregon (near Portland) and had a wonderful view of Mt Hood all the time. Nice hills and a really nice river close by with some great rapids.

Seeing your pics makes me want to go back.

Here is my office window. Had a service call in western New Hampshire took a picture of something that I have passed by many times and due to the change of seasons finally noticed something was not quite right.

And a camo'd cell phone tower is what it is.

This is just down right tacky and touristy.

I do believe it is better than just a naked cell tower though. At least it is an attempt to make it look better.

One has to remember that to be able to use cell phones, we have the necessary evil of cell towers.

I think this one doesn't look too bad.

would you rather have one of these things sticking out of the ground?

reminds me of the old version of The Time Machine and the sirens that went off to mesmerize the eloi so they would go underground to be eaten by the morlocks.

We have one of the disguised as tree ones about a mile from my house. It is around other conifers so it doesn't look too bad. It's taller than everything else but what else are you to do?

We do have a couple that just look like real tall flag poles with no visible attennae units. One is right next to our local mall. Doesn't look bad there but it is just a big pole. Kind of bland.

Rob

At that distance? I think that is way too big to be a VOR at that distance.

I have never seen a cell phone tower like that before. At least they make an effort to make them look nice and fit in, although they clearly don't.
