Not me. I couldn't care less about this inauguration, which should reveal where I'm at on the political scale.

Exactly!!!! This country has elected a president straight out of the most corrupt political machine in this nation. We have a constitutional law professor that has found so many ways to usurp our constitution already it seriously makes me sick. I fear what this country will look like in 4 years

I would love to but I did that today. My guy called in sick and I have a flexible week so I stayed home with the family.
I'll keep tabs on my phone and watch when I get home.
Yes I am happy for the change of administration.
Yes I had a "1/20/09" sticker on my truck.
NO, I am NOT a Liberal.
NO, I do not want this thread to turn into a political flame war!!
I know we don't normally keep political threads up around here but this is a big event.
If you intend to post in this thread keep it civil!
Try and keep the other side bashing to a minimum.

Just to be clear, I am not other side bashing. I wouldn't have voted for McCain either. I am just one individual that is truly sick by the direction this country is going, and I just know that direction isn't going to change in the next 4 years.
And yeah, I did vote, just not for either of the two mentioned here.

Hey, I'm not staying home for the inauguration, but I'm so damned happy that Bush is gone I can't see straight ! I know one thing: Mr. Obama has one hell of a mess to inherit and I wish him and us luck.
I say good riddance to the longest 8 years in history!

i couldn't get tickets.
some observations about nothing in particular.....
the 01.20.09 bumper stickers started showing up two years ago.
no president since hoover has been so hated.
my 83 year old mother in law voted democratic for the first time, ever.
that says something.
the mess we have here started in about 1985. it is a bi partisan mess.
there is enough tar to cover all candidates of both parties.
i used to have a bumper sticker on my work truck then.... it said:
"Two Terms - One In Office, One In Prison"
it was left over from the reagen administration. every politician
in every office since then has fit the bumper sticker before their
term is up. if they weren't a natural fit, they grew into it quickly.
partisan politics has brought us where we are. not democrats. not
republicans. partisan politics.
the only hope i have for changing all the players is that the corrupt
back room hacks may get changed, and it'll take 2 years before the
new backroom hacks get as corrupt. we need a two year breather.
if i could have one thing happen, to put a grin on the whole thing,
i would magically have a little cast iron lawn jockey appear on the
white house lawn..... but it would be a white lawn jockey......
hey. lighten up. it'll be ok. i promise.
the thing i find most amazing is that scores of books will be written over
the next 25 years, documenting the crap that went on for the last eight
years.
and all these people are wringing their hands, saying we are doomed.
we survived eight years of king george the last. we can survive anything.
but it would be more fun with a white cast iron lawn jockey.....

Bush, Clinton, Carter, congress Americans over spending all play into this plenty of blame to go around BUT spending our children into debt will only complicate the mess in the long run. We need to eat the hard times now and fix this mess.

That is too funny! But I will say that that isn't the whole problem. Somewhere we are loosing $10 billion a month, and have been since March 20, 2003... Now where could that be?
Another good question I have is, why do we have a congressional black caucus?

Obama intends to spend more on his "economic stimulus package" than the cost of the entire war in Iraq. How's that going to help anything?

Most certainly, because any good economics major knows you can simply spend your way back to a healthy economy. When the country is 10 trillion in the hole (trillion not billion), you can not take another trillion that you don't have and put it into circulation and revive the economy.
Any economy will not exist as long as this country manufacturers nothing. You need manufacturing to support the economy, all ours has moved beyond our borders. So Obama needs to simply tariff imported goods, which will raise funds or bring manufacturing back to this country where it belongs. We are now a service economy, which can not support an economy no matter how much money you dump into it.
Borrowing money from communist china to stimulate our economy is going to have one end result, war with china when they realize our country absolutely can not pay back our debts. China has already stated those intentions if the loans go in to default.
We can't blame Obama for the state this country is in, but we can expect the leader of this country to have a clue on how to deal with this situation. Do some research on the Great Depression. Had FDR not tried to spend his way out of it, it would have been a short recession, not a 10 year depression, and in the 30's, this country still had a manufacturing base to prop our economy up, we no longer have that.

First of all 600 billion in iraq, the money goes to mostly Iraqis. 700 billion spent here. The money goes to American companies, American workers, American roads, bridges, and other infrastructure get rebuilt. Then we Americans spend the money and by products and services right here in America and the money gets spent all over again.

Well said, it's both parties that got us into this mess. But we can dump some money into the economy for short term stimulation. It's not like were Zimbabwe......yet.

Right, that's just what we need - more debt. More monopoly money or borrowed money from China, Saudi Arabia, etc.
And another thing - bridge and infrastructure projects don't just happen over night. It can take years just to design and permit those projects, let alone build them. More pie in the sky nonsense.
