No, the altitude doesn't change. The altimeter setting changes to correct for a changing barometric pressure. If an airport is at say 500' and barometric pressure decreases, an aircraft altimeter may read it's own altitude as 520' when in reality has already crashed into the ground.

AK, thanks for the clarification. I just know that the numbers change rather quickly some days. Probably why I get those damn headaches once and awhile.

Ya, it gives me migraines too. Not as bad as it was when I was younger, but there are still days I wake up and can tell that it is overcast outside by the way my head feels.
