Default 10mm T&E cable double up

I am installing a consumer unit in a studio within a shared house. I have run a 10mm T&E from a lanlords consumer unit to the studio's consumer unit . Due to some last minute alterations i will now need about 60amps of power and realise i need to replace the 10mm with 16mm. Here is the question .... is there any reason i can't run a second 10mm and join the two together (as i have lots spare and no 16mm) to carry the additional ampage?

In the US, we have special rules about how small of a conductor we're permitted to "parallel". I suspect your jurisdiction has similar rules. It would be most helpful if you did post where this job is taking place.

I beleive we also have rules saying parallel conductors need to be the same size(and same length)

I'm guessing without looking up, a 10mm is around 1/0, and 16mm is around 3/0.

I wish we would finally go to the metric system here.

No reason at all why you can't //ll the 10mm T&E. You just need to remember the following. The cable must be of the same core colours. They must be identified at both ends of the circuit as the same 'sub circuit' The cables must follow the same //ll route. And finally. If the cables pass though any metalwork they must both pass though the same hole.

Note. This does not add up to 20mm however. So if you need to add further - calculate the equivalent cable size. And by the way. Are you sure you need to upgrade to 16mm. Look at the BS7671 Regs for current rating of 10mm T&E over the distance of the run in the circumstances of installation. ie. laid on surfaces, clipped under insulation, within conduit or pvc ducting etc. You may find that you can get away with 10mm.
