e-mail notifications from Electrician Talk
Is there any way to set up my e-mail notifications so that they actually tell me what was said in the new post. Because right now all they do is tell me that there is a new post from so and so in the such and such thread, but over at MH's they would actually tell me what was said by such and such and I didn't have to actually visit the site to read what was siad unless I wanted to respond. This is how I would really like it to be setup. It would make it so much faster for reading these posts from my Crackberry.

If you don't mind, I'm going to move this thread to the site help and suggestions area. That's the public forum area Nathan reads, near as I know. He's the only one with permissions to change that feature. Be advised, however, that it might be set that way by design to force a user to make an appearance on the site, and he might be unwilling to change it.

On the topic, I would actually like to not automatically receive any e-mail notifications from the site. I prefer to just log in and check everything out myself. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

User CP (control panel)
Under Settings & Options, choose Edit Options.
Under Messaging and Notification, find Default Thread Subscription Notice with a drop-down box.
Choose No email notification there.

I think Steelersman still wants to get the emails, but he wants to be able to read what was posted from the email.

As Marc said, that's something only the Administrator can set up.

Over all the sites we have about 120K members right now. Every day I get people who get these emails about an update to a thread and instead of going to the thread and replying... they hit reply on the email. That does nothing but fill up my inbox and their reply is lost. Taking the actual message out the email helps prevent this... even though it still happens.
Sorry, I know it's a pain for those who know how to use the system but there are way to many people that just don't get it.

So can you set it up so that I can read the posting from the email? I'm not trying to have it so that I can reply from my email. I just want to be able to read what the poster posted in the email message.

Don't mean to press the issue, but what do you mean that it's set up for all accounts?

It means it's one setting that effects everyone on the site. You can't turn it on for some people and turn it off for others. So, we have turned it off for all of our sites because of how much confusion it causes.
