ET slow to respond
A week and a half ago, I brought home a new computer. The place that built it for me did a great job of moving a lot of the files & programs from my old computer over.
All was well until a couple of days ago when I noticed ElectricianTalk was getting slower and slower. At first, I thought it was maybe they were having server problems, or it was some other problem between there and here.
But it's gotten worse. Sometimes, it takes 10-15 seconds for a page to load.... if it loads at all. Sometimes I get a blank screen, sometimes it appears nothing is happening at all, sometimes it just does not load at all yet "Done" still appears at the bottom left.
Most of the time, the progress bar in the bottom right shows 50-90% then just stops.
Sometimes Refreshing the page works, sometimes I must Back up and try again. Sometimes, I'm at a roadblock and must just click on ET in my bookmarks to get anywhere. Sometimes, I need to Resend several times.
If it's a problem in my computer, it has to do with something that's unique to ET as no other web page I've been to is so excruciatingly slow.
Windows 7, Firefox. At first, I thought it might be AdBlockPlus, but I disable it for ET and it makes no difference.
Any ideas?
Edit to add: It took 17 seconds between the time I hit "Post Thread" until it actually came up. I also had to click Refresh 9 times after I clicked on Edit Post just to add this.

You may have to update JAVA or Adobe flash to the latest, greatest.
I don't know what this site uses as far as that goes, but it could be that they have the latest version and other sites are trying to keep compatibility with older systems.
You could update, Adobe shockwave, and MS Silverlight as well.

Just ET.
I haven't been to every website in my bookmarks, but all the other sites I normally haunt load fairly quickly. I may have the problem arise on occasion at other sites, but here at ET it's 99-44/100% of the time.

Firefox may be blocking certain cookies as well, or perhaps you have one of those add ons "like" ad block or flash block that somehow inadvertently clicked when on this site?

Try going to a flash game website.
See if it locks there also.

I haven't had time to go messing around with settings like that yet. My past week has been getting many of the programs from the old computer up & running as they're XP and some need some tweaking to get them to run on W7.
I gotta go look at a job right now, so I'll be back this afternoon.

Ok I understand. Since it started off good and slowly slowed as you loaded programs.
If your W7 and 64bit now and you arn't running W7 pro for compatibility mood , then there is a good chance that one of your old XP programs is not clearing ram like it should. See if you can go to all your programs websites and find patches for them. You will not find many.
Photoshop is a good example. They want you to buy newer and better.
Don't forget to create a user account after your all done installing everything and use it as your everyday desktop.

What I have done to make winxp programs to run on Win7 "premium"
go to your C:/Programfilesx86/ folder, look for the program that is having the problem. Open that folder, and then right click, select sort by file type.
Now, on each program listed as "application" or has an .exe after it, right click, and select "Properties" Then I selected compatibility, and Windows XP or if that doesn't work, then windows 98, I also selected run as administrator. This was done for each of the application files in the program folder.
The only problem I have had, is when starting the program, Windows pops up a little box saying are you sure you want this program to run as administrator. select yes, and you are working just fine. Without Windows Pro.

I'll have to give that a try. I didn't think premium gave us that option.
That still leaves the 32 to 64bit issue for some programs. But what the heck,, still better then buying everything new.
Thanks.

I'm back. I'm no computer geek, but if there's an XP program that's causing it, why is it causing the problem only here on ET? And if it's a program, why is it causing the problem when it's not even running?
