Default GIF Avatars

What is the trick to get the .gif avatars to show their motion?

I see that Raider has his working but mine and 480sparky's avatars don't do their thing.

Is it the file size or something else?

My normal animated avatar is 85x120 pixels, and the max is 100x100, so my animated avatar is too big. Chris' is 80x80, so it works. I just took a single frame of my avatar and posted that.

Mine is only 80 x 80 but 21.7kb.
Is it because it is bigger in kb than allowed?
I think it said it needed to be less than 100 x 100 and 9.8kb.

Here is what it says

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 9.8 KB (whichever is smaller).
I am not sure why your 80 x 80 gif is not working.

If the avatar physical size or file size is a really big deal, Nathan could probably tweak that setting if you PM'd him. I don't think there's anything special about the size limit now... probably just a default setting.

Maybe because 21.7 kb is larger than 9.8 kb?

Looks like the ghost in the machine changed it to 97.7 kb.

When I go to "edit avatar", it now says "Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 100 by 100 pixels or 97.7 KB (whichever is smaller)."

You must be special, then.

Could be. Didn't give that a thought. I don't even have an avatar on this site yet.

Before you go searching for one, how about a little avatar-parity? 97.7kb for everyone?

I couldn't do that if I wanted to, but Nathan can. I see he's logged in to the Admin Console now. Maybe that's what he's doing.

It's set for 100x100 but I had the size wrong. Sorry about that. You can now upload larger files.

If you avatar is a gif image and was designed to wave then you may have copied it incorrectly. If this is a jpeg image then you would have to have someone make it animated-- not an easy process.
