How about a part of the site reserved for viewing and posting only by pros. Not all of us are interested in having all the questions and answers about finances and methods (or even discussions) posted for all to see.

We have a private area on www.ContractorTalk.com for members with a 1000 posts or more. We could set something up but we would need to come up with a good standard of who is allowed in.

Also, I'm not a fan of private forums for the most part. Only for sensitive business topics.

I think it is good to have a private area for pros so that sensitive stuff can be discussed and not accessed by the general public...however, having said that, I have to say I don't like the idea of baseing that on the number of posts you have logged in. When I am here, I may look at the new posts but not have anything of value to add or the answer already given may be what I would have said had I been the first to answer. Or do you want this site filled with repetatively redundant replies...? I mean we all could just add to every post..."yup!" and we get closer to that magic number of posts.

You know I'm going to suggest a File Swap section for all the documents we swap back and forth.

Then you'll be pleased to know that there is no "private area" on this site that is based on your number of posts. This whole site is "private", so to speak, as it is intended for electrical and electrical allied professionals.

Very happy to have you, Round2it

Yeah, I agree with you on that one. Not sure what it will take for Nate to set that up. We've run into a problem today already with not being able to post a spreadsheet file. I guess I'd have to recommend that you post a link to a www.putfile.com file for the time being.

I'm not a fan of having a private area to start off with however once you do get one it's really hard to do anything other than give access by post count.
For one thing picking and choosing doesn't scale well. It's fine when you have a few hundred members but once you get into the thousands it's too hard to track who should and should not be there.
Also... on some of the sites I've seen the private area becomes a club for the select few.

Anyways, I say no private area to start off with at least. Maybe later.

You mean a sub forum of business like we have on ContractorTalk.com?

Yep, the File Swap that is at the top of the Business section, under Contractor Licensing. It makes it easier to just put documents there for everyone to use when they need them. Kinda like we did with the Safety Policy way back.

I'm not good for much else but I can usually come up with some decent marketing and business documents when it's needed. These guys have enough work to do in the field so if I can stick files there to help them run the paperwork end a little easier, I'll have some use atleast. haha
