Lightbulb Something to do for the DIY people

may i suggest something.

How about a few questions, that you would not know unless you are an electrician.

ive seen this on a few of my automotive forums.

the only thing i could see being an issue is for low voltage trying to answer some of the line work stuff. well, at least i know i couldnt.

i mean, you could even do some questions like what is such and such of the NEC code. or a simple true false if something is code or not.

i know on one of my networking sites, it asks the color code for a network cable.

And there are a lot of so called (simple questions) that some guys wouldn't know.
Trying to come up with questions that all electricians would know would be next to imposable.

While it is annoying to have to nuke the DIY and handyman thread we get, it is not really that bad.

What truly bothers me is people's nature, and that they think the rules do not apply to them because "they need help", or that their situation is "important".

It seems like there has been alot of guys that are curious about the trade or just starting out in an apprenticeship lately. These guys most likely wouldn't know alot about electricity but still have valid questions.

Add to that myself, who is an Industrial Technician/Electrician and knows very little about code references, which is a reason I am here to learn.

Yup, this is one of the reasons technical questions, no matter how easy, would not work here.

All of the above.
I vote weed them out, real fast.

We all can tell an apprentices question from a homeowners question (I'ld like to think).
The helper usually has a point or direction,The HO does not.
And... Most are double Es with all the answers.

But do be discriminating (oops un"PC")mmm.. Profile..(oops again) mmm ..size up...(oops again)...
Screw it,we're all smart here and can figure it out pretty quick.

I asked this before and got several different answers.

What are the effects of voltage, compared to amperage, on the body?

Or a simple T/F question:

When installing 4 350kcmils into a 1/2" PVC raceway, the PVC stands for Pipe Very Crowded?
