Default Thread Subscriptions

Why do I automatically get 'subscribed' to threads at random? Seems every once in a while, I get an email telling me there's a post in a thread, but I never subscribe to any threads.

Any ideas why this is so sporadic, and if there's a way to 'turn it off'?

Go to your User Control Panel and go to edit options. Under subscriptions choose do not subscribe and it should never subscribe. The default is to subscribe and it saves the threads in a folder but the default is no email notice so I am not sure why. Turn it off and see what happens- I never use it.

Oh you mean that "sporadic random auto subscribe" virus?

That's how I have it set up.... but I'm still subscribed to six threads right now.

Im having the same problem.

I cleared the subscription file, but I cant find anything that lets me turn off subscriptions. Did cleaning the file do it, or do I need to clean it after every new thread I get into?

I have yet to figure it out. I'm getting emails about posts in threads I've never even read.

Do the emails direct you to poll questions to answer?

Yesterday after reading this thread, I checked "subscriptions" in the control panel and found over 4000 titles. 4000 threads in the list.
Is this right? I started to delete a page at a time and realized it may be a normal function of the forum control?
Should I start deleting these a little at a time or just not concern myself. I am asking?
Also. If this should be deleted. Where do I stop the forum controls from building this list of "subscriptions"?

Ps/edit.............I was able to delete everything with one action. But the questions regarding the compilation of the list remains.

John the default is set to save the threads you responded to. I guess this may help you look for a thread you want access to. You can set your default to not save them. I have never used this feature but I can see where it may be helpful.

I went to control panel and edit option and set it for do not subscribe. I can subscribe to individual threads that I like and can find easily at another date. To subscribe to a thread - open the thread and at the right corner is thread tool- hit subscribe

I have yet to subscribe to a thread, get I'm subscribed to many I've posted in. Not all of them, and some I don't post in.

And about 10% of those I get an email telling me there's a post in a subscribed thread.

I have no idea Ken. I never get emails but I had over 4,000 subscribed threads until I deleted them and change my option to "do not subscribe" I subscribe to this post so I will keep a watch and see if it does weird stuff

Thanks Dennis. I found the "edit options" set to "no email". I changed it to "do not subscribe".
