240V Lightning or Surge Protectors
I am looking for a 240V protector to use for a 240V well pump. All the surge and lightning protectors I have found need a neutral. There is a 10/2UF going to the well house. I wanted to put protection out at the well house as well as at the home. I really don't want to tie the neutral of the protector to the egc. Anyone know of something out there for this purpose.

A MOV should do the trick. Available in 250 and 275 volt. Put this across your feed. Have to select the amount of power dissipation you require. Simple to use to suppress power spikes but good luck with lightning strikes.

Dennis, if the above suggestion doesn't work for you at the well, then try this, it's out there and for this purpose.
10/3 and a shovel/backhoe

Use the pre package protector not individual MOV's. Especially since you can put the pre made unit in a knock out so if it pops after a surge there won't be blown up MOV in the box.
Putting the white wire on the EGC won't hurt.

What got me thinking about those was the little grey round things hanging off panels or well pump equipment. Now that I look at the specs closer, it shows all the wiring going to neutral, but in the specs it shows L1,L2,N/G so I'm not sure what to think. Sorry

You can use neutral or ground with these, or none.
