Default 314.29 (or another reason I hate resi)

Chris: Young lady, I need to get at the old fuse panel in the kitchen.

Homeowner: There isn't one.

C: There sure is, maybe behind a picture?

HO: No, we have been here over ten years and I can tell you there is no box in the kitchen.

C: Could I take a look?

HO: Help yourself.

C: Oh, right here, I'm going to have to cut this wall.

HO: I'm going to have to call my husband. BTW, do you own a razor?

C: Holy crap Marc, what are you doing in Florida? You look damn hot dressed like a girl, how long you been married.

HO: EXCUSE ME???

C: Oh, sorry, thought that....

So 30 minutes later I convince her to let me work.

See any other violations?

I see a whole shîtload of wires that seem to go nowhere. Is there another raceway in the lower right?

Also, three red conductors used for grounding. Large conductor marked with white tape used for grounding, too.

Where's Al?

You have to admit, I see just as much hack work in smaller commercial settings. Too many handymen and GC's doing the "whole job".

The old fuse box backs up through a concrete block wall to the panel below. Note the two nipples in the top. Yes Ken there is a nipple the the lower right in the pics above. Hard to see behind the SERVICE conductors that enter the right and pass through to the main in the picture below.

Oh I get it, Peter and Marc moved here because marriage between two men is legal. Well crap Peter, have your charming wife Marc fix that mess and just pay us for today. Save me having to put together a report tonight.

As long as it is not bonded at the meter or disco, sure...a little unconventional but it works. What a great story. A big ol' junction box covered by sheetrock.

Was it completely rocked over, or was there some sort of substrate supporting joint compound?
