Get your 'C' Certificate Full Technological from the C&G. Then Electrical Fitters. This will give you the practical grounding you need.Design is a wide field. Installation design can be done through Design and Verification Courses but if you are talking about equipment design etc you need at least Higher National Certificates or Diploma.

Marine Technology is a branch of Electrical Fitting. Used to be favoured by Shipbuilding areas at one time. Also Colleges located within industrial towns.
