Default DC and receptacles

Sorry this may be an even dumber question that the other thread. Are receptacles DC current?

No but the value we measure is a representative of the equivalent heating effect of DC, Peak of 120 VAC is 169, the RMS is 120 VAC.

I've don't think I've ever seen a receptacle with a DC rating.

Sure you have; forklift battery chargers!

I know what you mean though, I highly doubt any of the normal receptacles are DC rated.

An AC arc is self-extinguishing, well up to a certain voltage it is anyway, a DC arc is not. I wouldn't want to pull the plug on a high current DC circuit.

DC Arcs are self extinguishing if you pull the contacts far enough apart. AC Arcs are not always self extinguishing above 360 VAC the arc will re-ignite, which is why we have GFP on 480 vac systems and do not require them on 208. The peak of the sine wave on a 208 system does not approach this value.

Contacts? Are you talking about the blades on the plug?

The blades on the plug and the inside of each slot in the receptacle/outlet are considered the contacts in this situation...
