Default Did I understand my electrician correctly

Hi, please help with a question. I am moving my shop to a new location. I currently have 150 single phase service. Where I am moving has 2- 100 amp single phase service with one panel being for heat only totalizer I believe is the name of the service. I currently draw 141 Amps at full capacity (I turned everything on and clamped each leg and added together). That number is peak and fluctuates but never higher than 141. None of that 141 is heat, so it would have to go on the 100 main panel.

Question: I think my electrician said that would be fine because you have up to 100 amps on each leg of the service. So as long as one leg does not pull more than 100 amps i'll be ok. Did I understand him correctly??

thanks

When you said that you added them all together, did you mean that you took a reading from each incoming leg and totaled them up and got something like 141 amps?
Have an electrician measure each leg, write it down, pay him for his time and let us know what you have

I used to work for a GC for alot of years when I was younger, but really don't mess with electricity that much...except for basic wiring.

I Clamped each leg one leg was about 73 and the other was around 68 and that's how I got 141.

And Smitty before I go taking medicine or sticking needles, i'm going to ask another doctor!!! I think you need a vacation Smitty. Maybe you should go hang out with Jrannis in sunny florida and at the same time he could teach you a thing or two about electricity. You must really be a busy electrician with an attitude like that.

You should always get a second opinion.

He has an electrician, he is asking for second opinion.

Maybe you should see a Dr. and get some chill pills.

Maybe I could learn a thing or two, maybe not. Just cause I do not care to help you with your question could hardly be a factor in me being busy or not.

The answer is................... you have 73 amps! You are now operating at 73% capacity of that 100amp panel.
We, as a practice, like to keep these things at a max of 80%.

Thank you very much for that answer, so I did understand my EC correctly, cool that makes me happy......i'm close to capacity but not at it.

My parents live in W.Palm Beach so if you service that area I'm happy to recommend you.

See how that works Smitty.
