Estimate this job with me...
I have a job I'm bidding, and I've pretty much worked out what I think my quote should be, but I'm curious what others would estimate, and maybe even what insight some of you may have. I'll lay it out the best I can
There are 30 duplex units in a government housing project. Originally, they were build in the 70s with thru-the-wall A/C units, now they are being upgraded to central units. Because of this, the services are being upgraded from 100 A to 200 A.
The only electrical work is replacing the services with a 2-gang Square D MP42200 pack, 200 A mains, overhead feed. 3" rigid riser with 3- 350 kcmil. 1/0 GEC in 1" rigid to existing ground rod. Feed into building with 2-1/2" rigid into the soffit, then run 3/0,3/0,3/0, #3 copper SER. Feed new 200 A QO MLO 32 space panels inside. Terminate existing branch circuits and run two new circuits for condensing unit (30 A) and air handler (20 A).
From closest unit panel to service is 26', furthest is 66'. Of course demo of the old equipment too. Contractor is providing all the meter packs, wire and material. He even picks it up and delivers it to his secure lockup on site. They are doing one unit at a time, so if I get it, I'll put two journeymen on them. This is all HUD money. Like I said, I think I know what I'm going to quote, but before I put it out there, I want to see some nationwide best guesses from you guys.

It seems that the general contractor is trying to find the lowest guy possible, if he wants to buy all the material.
$2400 per service.

1/0 GEC in 1" rigid to existing ground rod.

Going to be tough to bond both ends of that with the 1/0. Ask them change it to PVC.

Do you mean 2 units at one time?
I'd estimate say 40 hours per apartment unit ($3400) and end up making good money.
After the first set I'd have it down to 20 hours.
Of course, I tend to bid things too low..........that's why I don't handle that end of the business.

Did they spec that exact equipment? Reason I'm asking is because you can save an assload of money by getting 40 space MB panels, moving the main out of the panel to the meter pack, and putting lugs in the MB panel to make it an MLO panel. That'll shave a few hundred bucks in material cost off every one.

edit... I missed the part where they're providing the materials.
I'd say that each building is going to be about 28-34 man hours, plus a couple hundred for miscellaneous materials they won't provide you. I'd say maybe 3600-3800 bucks for each building. Somewhere in there.

OK, I met with the GC again today, and I poked my head around all the places I didn't get to look at when I wrote this morning. Learned some new stuff too. Half of each duplex will be occupied, so we have to build the service and have that unit energized by the end of the day. But, this thing looks like a cake walk for the most part.
I estimated the whole building to take about 20 hours per man, but I didn't like how the number looked so I bumped it to 22.5, totaling 45 hours. and everything looked good. Unfortunately, I can't get better those Northeast prices in East Bumblehump, Al. I came in at $2700 per building, not counting padding for miscellaneous. And that was more than the other guy bidding, but the GC didn't like him, and we signed the paper work this evening. Start in two weeks.
P.S.: 220, there is a ground rod clamp made just for bonding the wire and the pipe. I'm trying to hunt it down now. My supply house guy looked at me like I was nuts. I think it is made by Ilsco. I think I'll make a post and see what the guys here know.

Crap! I've got the name of that fitting on the tip of my tongue... I'm pretty sure T&B makes one too.
