Default In ground pool

Per the nec 680 are the pool lights the only equipment to be gfic protected? Hard wired pumps, and blowers do not?

Yes, that's correct if they're hard wired.

Be sure they're at least 5' away from the inside walls. If they're cord and plug connected they would need to be, and any receptacles within 20'.

Don't know if anything changed in 08.

Well, you already know it is in Art680, now you just need to find it.
Start in 680.21 & 680.22

Maybe it could be changed to where, instead of your location, the code cycle you're under
