Default I just need to vent!

I'm working on a house that was damaged by a water leak(broken pipe for a month or more). They decided to remodel since all the walls were going to be open.

So, I demolished all the wiring on the walls that were coming out.

Called back to start the rough and the carpenter says we need to get the first floor done right away so he can rock it??? Ok, I bust ass and get most of it done(can't finish because all the framing isn't done). Called for an inspection, but because of framing wiring wasn't done($35 fee wasted).

I move to the 2nd floor. Wire as much as I can, again not all the framing is done. Oh did I mention they insulated half the exterior walls before I started the rough.

Well I move to the basement. Guess what, you're right. The walls aren't done. The bathrooms layouts aren't done. Yesterday I was trying to pull a existing wire and it wouldn't move. Found they had nailed blocking for the rock and smashed the wires. Today I found they had nailed thru a 65 foot run of 10/2. Wire was going thru a joist hole, plain as the nose on their faces.

Owner wants to be in by Memorial day and this guy and crew are working half days. Oh, and for the last 4 days they were nailing paneling on the cathedral ceiling and ....wait for it...the framing still isn't done.

Sorry for the novel.

Just one of reasons I'm glad to be independent enough to tell people to screw off if it suits me at the time.

I thought it was when I set my schedule. If FTD was an Olympic sport, these guys would be gold medalists.

If the HO is playing GC.. charge him for the extra work..

If the carpenter is the GC.. then charge him..

Nothing worse than being on a job and you are the only professional tradesman there..

The carpenter sounds like he has a day job somewhere else..

SOP for me is if the framing in not completed.. I will not start the job.. been there too many times and the end result is the same..

I don't fish and my knees are bad. The insulators are coming Monday(found out today). I left tonight to go on a trouble call and tomorrow I have to work somewhere else. Oh, did i mention the framing isn't done. They promised the walls would done tomorrow. I won't. This is HO run job and he should have fired the builder. I have been telling the HO that I can't wire walls that aren't there, over and over.

Remember this is a rant.

Who scheduled the insulators when the job is so out of sync and the framing is not done..

The insulation thing sucks, here insulation usually can't be done until wiring has had a concealment inspection. The carpenters sound sucky though (been there dealt with that before and probably again).
Change order their asses.
Within reason I try not to back charge most jobs like this with other trades I know we have an unwritten rule: s happens and if they tell me about it (unless it's a huge PITA) I usually don't charge or charge low. I do this for two reasons #1 finding out especially before drywall someone hit a wire I respect they tell me and I also think about what a PITA it would be to fix after the fact. #2 I am not perfect I hit others stuff too when I do I man up too.
Sorry to be long winded but I agree with the others it sounds like you need a three or four day weekend. You will be surprised how it can help to let your blood pressure go back down as you don't took about the circus monkeys for a while.

Sounds like a hack! Tell him he can sheetrock when you are finished and the unrealistic chump will be in by Labor day. :-)

If you have a contract, I'd walk off till the framing is done, or at least substantially done so you can work on 1st floor while they frame second. Also, charge for your wasted time. But, you'd have to have all that in your contract......

The builder scheduled the insulators. As I was leaving tonight, he said "we have the loft done, you can wire it now" sorry not happening.

My daughter is coming home with the 9 month old grandson Saturday!!! Life is good!
