I'm tired of this crap
A couple years ago I would have walked away from crap jobs like this. A simple residence that has ended up over the years with countless issues.
All I was contracted to do was install an electronic sub meter for a guest house. It was hard to do with all the violations. These service conductors are about 7' off the ground. I can easily touch them from the ground.
Guest house sub is mounted behind washer/dryer, fed with NM, partially underground. Neutrals not isolated. #8 wire on a 2P 70A breaker. Panel interior pic was too blurry to post. Exterior pic is no gem either.
Main panel has a few issues itself.
I hope things pick up so I don't have to deal with crap like this ever again. This place needs about 20K to clean it up. I'd be happy to do it but I'm not happy adding to the mess.

Oh well, work is work.
Hopefully you priced the job per the 'going rate' method and still managed to make money.

You have to blame the POCO for connecting the service.. just think of all the hack work as job security.
Our trade is full of HI contractors, house flippers, maintenance men, and HO who like to "play" electrician because it seems so easy to get that light to work.
It will only get worse as time goes on.. and you can blame HD and LOWES for a big part of the problem.
Before they came on the scene, supply houses would charge a HO top dollar for material and NEVER answer a "how do I do it" question.

You can't apply the going rate here because it is not a cookie cutter type job and Bob wonders why I won't STFU..
You really need to start taking notes.. all this information might disrupt those photoshopping skills your working on..

I wish I had that attitude but, no matter what the going rate is, it aint enough to be a part of this mess. I don't mind getting down and dirty as long as I feel I've accomplished something. All I did was add to the clusterflock for a few measly dollars.
I feel like a whore

But this work I would imagine predates HD or Blowes.

Some of it does.
The service certainly does ans does the service conductor relocation due to the patio cover installation. It went down hill from there.
The Guest house sub and associated wiring was started in the beginning of the home improvement store era.

I think that HD would have help this guy/this job. He could have easily gone to HD and purchased the proper wire in the length required and done it right. He was just too cheap/lazy so he did it with what he had in his trunk.

I guess I've never done the same service upgrade twice, so I've never done a cookie-cutter service upgrade. But I still wanna know how to adjust my price to the going rate.

I like how blue the sky is there. Looks like Florida sky. I won't see that color blue for another 5 months. It's more of a grey blue here.

Not a chance in hell I am going to STFU..
I am expressing my viewpoint.. some agree.. some don't.. bottom line it makes for a lively debate.
If YOU want piece and quiet, go over to MH where nothing is debated..

I tend to agree with you for the most part. But turning EVERY thread into the SAME debate is both rude to the thread starter and tiresome.
Start your own thread and argue there. Again and again and again and again............

Looks about par for the course in areas like that, at least from my experience. That one is worse than any of the one's I have worked on though.

Been there before, I was troubleshooting a service a while back, didn't really look up at first then when I was like, oh look at that the drip loop is about half a foot above my head.
