There was a Michael Lynch that purchased our local aluminum smelter, then shut it down to sell back the power. It only cost about 900 people their jobs.
Detroit has it's own MV distribution system, goes though all the hoods, called PLD Public Lighting of Detroit. Used to do a ton of work for them until they stopped paying thier invoices, they still owe my last employer $1.2M
:laughing: I was just reading the article a minute ago and followed the OC electrician link in the comments and was looking at the project pics and was like hey, I have seen pictures of that meter pedestal before on ET. Now it all makes sense.
In some cases, yes, it's not unheard of. Usually though, they're tapping off of the pole to pole secondary lines or nearby service drops, which are already at 120.
I dunno what's worse the fact that they all were clearly interviewed on camera and say their name or the fact that the first guy says he was ELECTROCUTED multiple times. Like it was nothing, god damn his medical bills for recitation must be skyrocketing.
