Does anyone make a 3/C NM cable that isn't lumpy and distorted? Ever since they moved to a supposedly flat construction it's looked terrible and doesn't install as easily as the round stuff. It's nearly impossible to get it looking decent for exposed work.
Southwire is actually the worst offender. I had to run some 12/3 recently and it was the Encore brand from the supply house, and it looked awful after.
I saw some UCI stuff on ebay and it looked flat, but I don't know of any supplier that carries it around here.
That romex install actually looks really good, but it's the very rare exception.. something like that will never be seen in person by most electricians. Usually it's a real clusterfock!
Here's my question with the new romex do they cut it with their teeth or a lawn mower? I mean the latest rolls of 14 I've gotten have spear ends like were trying to spear antelope. I get that the ends are pointy because of cutters, but these look like prison shanks.
That and I'm still torqued because I stabbed myself carrying some into a rough in last week.
Damn you Maurice supply.
I wear shoes that allow circulation when i'm doing certain work. But I can't stand wood bits, dirt, and the like rubbing against my ankle and burrowing in my shoe!
It actually looks flat. They don't put the red stripe on it anymore because I bought some Encore 3/C recently and it didn't have it. I guess it's easy to identify now because it's all lumpy.
Some of that junk I can't even make look nice enough for concealed work. I haven't seen anything that I would call flat. Just lumpy. Some of it almost seams knotted with a flimsy loose jacket.
I like the nice consistent twisted tight jacket stuff.
Just hide it behind some two wire and use a lot of staples. If it tries to get out of line just twist the staple at an angle to force it back while glaring at it. If it still tries to get out of line threaten it with a plumber's torch.:whistling2:
I think They have gotten to the point where they sell so much they can lay back and cut corners. Once Encore and Colonial catch on those will become the better make... Hopefully
We cut any wire at our place except for 10 & 12 thhn... most commercial guys buy romex by the foot and vice versa with resi guys and MC. We don't mind.
