Default minor works testing

when adding an emergency light fitting to an existing lighting circuit,is it necessary to insulation resistance test between phase and neutral for the whole of the circuit ,or is phase & neutral to earth sufficient for the existing and ph to n ,ph to e & n to e for the wiring extension .

You only need test the works you have installed. But you are required to ensure that the earthing arrangements of the circuit are to BS7671. If not notify the customer and record the event.

thanks frank , but on the nic test sheet & the iee sheet the test values required do they relate to the whole circuit or just the extension

It is not really possible to exclude all the circuitry ie for Z values since your emergency light circuit is fed via the mains portion of your lighting circuit. For all other tests however you can be circuit specific - your emergency lighting circuit only. Your NIC sheet should be notarized in 'other comments' to indicate that your use of the existing ccp for impedance results.
