Default Off the grid

Anyone off the grid? What sources do you use? Wind, solar, battery banks, generators?

if you aren't connected to utility companies, you are off the grid.

it is if you dig it yourself, and set up the pumps to run off your solar system.

I have a customer right now that was running off the grid. He only has 400 watts worth of solar and a 1 kw wind turbine. I have to install an electric service next week so his girlfriend will move in with him. She can't run her hair burner.

Backstay, is your inverter oversized for efficiency or just future panels?

We just completed a small 4.6kW solar installation, and I was really surprised to see how much we lose through the inverter. I think the peak output under absolutely ideal conditions will be only 3kW and usually averages at about 2.5kW.

My inverter is sized to start and run the loads not the size of the array. Output of my panels is driven by angle to the sun and temp. My losses are in the conversion from DC to AC from the batteries. When it's cold(-20) I get more than 3000 watts from my array.

Thanks. I knew you were off grid. How long have you been off grid?
