I'd guess there is a mismatch creating losses on their system. I'm curious; why didn't they fix it rather than shutting it off? Its their system, isn't it?

Must be cablevision, it's OT on weekends if you wanna pay, or regular time during the week if you don't.

I know exactly what it is.... it's whatever the company told him it was when he asked, "what is an open loop?" when they told him what the problem was because he didn't know...

Dish never told me I had an "open loop" and as for the rest, apparently cable "sucks" in some parts of the country.

Very true, I am currently in an area that dish goes out a lot in bad weather, gets a lot of tree interference and the same trees take out the cable wiring often. On the bright side, I have a great DVD collection.

I looked at Direct, but we couldn't get a line on their satellite because of the trees.

I have heard that when people put inline filters it blocks your reciever from sending low frequency signals to the cable company. Eventually they will detect and shut you down. Then all the data will be stored in the hardrive and un less you clear re format etc. you will be responsible for the charges. Im sure this is not your friends case just adding my 2 cents.

I was told that an open loop was a fancy way of saying that they suspected you of stealing cable service.

thats a pretty damn good idea. never thought of that. his service was tapped into the first floor service but he had permission from his parents to do that since they live on the first floor. maybe the cable guy thought he was stealing it. thanks for that thought
