Question Outdoor Hot Tub/Spa Install

Can anyone give me some tips on installing this http://www.hotspring.com/Spa_Showroo...odel_aria.html for a customer. I know that I need to be at least 6' away from the inside wall, but no further than 10' away with the spa panel. I don't really know vertical heights or dimensions. I know that the manufacture requires this spa panel to have one 2-pole 20amp/230volt GFCI breaker and one 2-pole 30amp/230volt breaker installed. The 120 volt outlet is tapped off the 20amp/230volt GFCI breaker. The main panel feeds this spa panel with just a 2-pole 50amp/230 breaker. Its not a GFCI breaker. Its just a regular 2-pole breaker.

Any tips you can give or NEC Codes will be appreciated.

Thanks for looking

Do you do much residential work? This is a pretty basic install.

Even though it is only 240v, you MUST feed this panel with "3-wire", or a four wire feeder in conduit. You CAN use NM cable for the inside portion of the wiring to this spa.
The GFI breakers will not function without the neutral, plus you have 120v loads in that panel.
The spas like this that I have done have included the panel and breakers.

Read and understand Art 680; Part I and Part IV. ALL of it

I install a lot of pool panel and automation panels. Just did one yesterday the pool control panel we fed yesterday we used a 60amp feed from main panel just like a feed for sub panel the pool panel is usually a main lug feed. Use a 3 wire connection to pool panel you may need to use some space in another panel depending on equipment loads. Most pool panels don't come with adequate space.

Its not wise to use a GFCI breaker on the main feed. Use a regular two pole breaker for your feed and buy GFCI breakers for the rest of the equipment.

Most pumps Ive worked with are usually 208-230v except for hydraulic pumps for covers are usually 115v
Alll these are usually required to be GFCI protected.

You can refer to article 680 in the NEC for any code questions and if your stuck with anything its usually a good Idea to call technical support to walk you through the programming process of the pool panel.
