I'd be happy about cash, but if you're taking it from a lawyer, I'd definately take them wearing gloves and wash them before handling them; they're probably covered in coke!
And $300 cash for labour only is pretty ok. I think you did good for not accepting the first offer. Pretend it's a Saturday and it's a cash job. I think most of the guys here are angry because it's not $2000 for 1 day of work, which is what all electricians make.

500/day is fair I'd say. Especially if you don't have to run all over the place using your truck to get stock. Not a HR per say, but better than wondering where the next mortgage payment will come from.

If that is the only way she would do business.. I don't see a problem with it..
Maybe if he didn't have that job.. there wouldn't be another one to take its place..

I personally dont like it when people try to tell me what im worth... I like to get 900 for the day... but thats me... Yea i know i sound like big tough guy but thats how i feel about that... You gotta do what you gotta do...
When your mortgage guy sends you a letter for payment tell him you will pay 3/4.... take it or leave it... see how it works out ....

It was an honest question.
If you clear that rate every day for a 5 day week, you're doing $80k a year. If you're doing side-work, or an employee with no overhead, you're doing alright.
If you've got business expenses, that $80k is gonna start vanishing awful fast.

I think to many guys, including side jobbers run their jobs like its the old west, or like they are spice merchants somewhere in the Caribbian...

I have one contractor that likes to tell me what the price is going to be. They base it off numbers I've given them for jobs. Basically a flat rate number for any given job. They use it for bidding and then tell me what the budget is for my part of the work and ask if I want it. If I say no they go lowballing. Not my favorite way to work but for the most part the numbers are accurate and they have disclaimers in their contract with the customer that cover their/my ass should the job end up being something more than they figured.

I have a mortage too Dronai, and a truck payment, and a 401, insurance, and the list goes on.... 500 a day ....... not gonna do it... especially without a markup on material... I would almost rather stay home and wall paper the dinning room, paint the new babys rooms, and so on....

I'm sure everyone here would like to get paid that also..
But reality dictates either you work for $450 a day or you don't work.. what do you do..
Many times guys here have said they would shovel chit to feed their family if they had to.. how much a day does that pay..

Believe me i understand, im just bitchy today and probably shouldnt be on here... Im so tired of the game... I get really irritated when customers start asking for discounts or better prices... May times they have money, like the people Dronai is talking about but they think we are to stupid to stay with our guns...They think if they flash a little money in our faces were gonna be like "OH YES SUH, I BE GETTING RIGHT ON THAT MASSA...."

Yea but look at who is asking for a discount... A lawyer and finance guy... Please... its just a game to them... the next time they call you they got your number.... and they will tell their friends "oh i know a guy that will work for much less" Trust me.... its not worth the short cash.. Just my two cents ...

Damn John, quit exposing my finances
Lets see, I had only two offers at 55K, and $60K, and the one I quit was $75K plus full bennies.
This is part time and I make almost the same. I can never bill out 40 hr weeks.

It is a game, and they are rich because they are not dumb.
But what other option do you propose ? I didn't lose any higher paying work.
For construction jobs that will be billable for two to four weeks, I'll do it.
My service rates are higher, and in line with my area.
