Default Recommendation: AC lights off of Inverter, or DC rechargeable lights

I need to run 2x300 watt halogen lights ( or equivalent DC rechargeables like a floodlamp) for 2 hours with full output. Am I better off with 2 car batteries run thru an inverter for ac power, or am I better off just buying 2 rechargeable 12v from an autoshop. I can't run a generator. I've have no experience here so I'm looking for the best solution. Recommendations on your preferred set-up would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think that you will find a 12 volt 300watt rechargeable lamp which will run for 2 hours.

A 1000 watt modified square wave inverter should be able to handle that sort of load easily enough. You could use a couple of 50 Ah batteries but I would probably bo for a couple of 75 Ah truck batteries. If you are going to be doing this very often, get some good quality deep cycle batteries and a good switch mode charger.

If all you want to do is run resistive loads such as these lights then a modified square wave (MSW) inverter from a reputable brand should be cheap and reliable.

Inductive loads such as motors, some transformers and lights with inductive ballasts should be run on pure sine wave inverters.

Some switch mode power supplies and dimmers have trouble with some MSW inverters as well.
