When the electricity ran from the power lines into the fire truck, the lines automatically de-energized. More than 31,000 customers of Dominion Virginia lost power. Although Metro kept power on its rails, the loss of power affected the rail system's signaling capability in Alexandria. Train operators were ordered to proceed very slowly for about an hour.

Power was fully restored to the area around 10:30 a.m.

Probably a real stretch but NJ transit was having signaling problems this morning in the Princeton Junction area. I wonder if this had anything to do with the situation in Alexandria.

At least the fireman was smart enough to jump. I'd rather have injuries from that than the burns or death from the shock.

Cool!
That happened here in Atlanta, a TV crew raised their truck satellite dish and hit some over head lines; they weren't 230K but maybe around 50k or so, anyway, it blew a crater the size of a golf cart about a foot deep underneath their truck.
