Default Service call/troubleshoot.

Homeowners new dryer not working.

Older home but a newer 4 wire circuit.

They called the appliance tesch who said there was a "hot neutral"

I started in the house because the recep was still open.

I used my wiggy and read:

black/red = 240V
black/white = 240V
red/white= 240V

Went to the panel and saw it was a 3 phase (delta) system.

Went to my truck and got my fluke.

I had to tell them their new dryer is dead.

That's something you wouldn't ordinarily expect to find in a home . Hopefully, they know the guy who ran the new 4-wire circuit and can go gripe at him.

It's common here in the 50's/60's neighborhoods. They ran the 3 phase Delta to power those new fangled air cundishoners.

The seer ratings on nodern single phase AC units will eventually make the old 3 phase services obsolete. 95% of the time we do a 3 phase resi panel change, we change them out to single phase.

I think the homeowner may have had his hands in it. I hope so anyway.

All the high legs on the bus was marked with orange tape except next to the 3 pole AC breaker and that's where some nimrod put the dryer breaker. There were no other markings on the panel to warn unqualified people of the delta system. I fixed that too.

kenmore elite with pedistals, and a long warranty. The washer and dryer cost 4200 out the door. Really good machines.
