Angry Steam Shower Connections

Hi Everyone, I need help. Last night the power went out on my steam shower and I thought it was just the breaker; but, as it turned out, it wasn't. I turned the breaker off and looked at the back of the unit and one of the wire caps had melted!! Off hand, can you tell me if the wire is not large enough to carry the power? The breaker is a 30 Amp.
I have used it for about 2 years and it is just now giving me a problem. Could it be a power surge? Anyone? Thanks.

Why is it that some people think the rules don't apply to them?
Was this box to hard to figure out?
Sorry, "none" is not an acceptable answer.
