Same way it's always been done. Pick up the phone and open the YPs to "Electrical Conctractors", then hit the streets with some good shoes.

I got my first job by going to the phone book and calling contractors and asking if they needed help.

Get the addresses of local contractors and go visit each in the morning around 8:00 am. Everyone will be in the shop in the morning whereas they will be out in the field later on.

They may have a big job or someone may not have shown up for work. (Right place at the right time thing!)

Look to do "grunt" work. Maybe driving a large truck to a job (has clutch). Helping to pull large electric cables. Maybe "rough" electrical work in new construction - install boxes and pull wires. Finish work in new construction - install outlets, switches - test.

Don't expect to work everyday. Sometimes there is no work, big jobs are finished, etc.

That doesn't sound like grunt work, that sounds like normal electrical work. Ohh yeah, it's all grunt work, but that's ok because if you like it then it's even fun sometimes.

Well it sure was grunt work when we were pulling the main panel wires to each apartment in a new apartment complex! With one unit it took 4 of us using all our strength prying on a 2x4 to pull those wires through the conduit...

...Seems someone untaped the covered end of the conduit and threw a small rock in! (Wires were not damaged.)

I'll bet the A/C guys did it...
